ENSEMBLES 

Kantori (Beginner Treble)

This class is for select 9th and 10th grade women who have zero high school choir experience.  need additional work on vocal development and/or sight-reading skills.

Prerequisites:


• Director’s approval.
• Interview required for all women and to assess vocal technique, music reading skills and attitude.

Previous choir or singing experience is not required.


There are no advanced choirs at the freshman level and therefore there is no need for freshmen to audition for choir placement. Sophomore, Junior and Senior students can audition for the Varsity Level Choirs (Bella Voce and Meistersingers Chorale).  Auditions will take place individually at the end of Freshmen year.

Concordia (All Men)

This class is for select 9th-12th grade students who need additional work on vocal development and/or sight-reading skills.

Prerequisites:


• Director’s approval.
• Interview required for all men to assess vocal technique, music reading skills and attitude.

• Previous choir or singing experience is not required.

Bel Canto (JV Treble)
This class is for women 10th-12th who need more skills in choir.
Prerequisites:
• Director’s approval.
• Extended audition (above the regular Choir audition), application, and/or interview may be required to assess
the student’s vocal technique, music reading skills and attitude as well as a student’s ability to sing
independently from other parts.
• Previous Weiss HS Choir experience is required.
• Students must re-audition each year.
• Participation (including extra-curricular) and eligibility during the previous year is essential and is used as a
determining factor when placing students in an advanced level Choir.

Bella Voce (Varsity Treble)
This class is for women who have achieved the highest level of musicianship, vocal development and music
reading skills and have an interest in being involved in choral music with a higher level of commitment.  Eligibility is
mandatory.
Prerequisites:
• Director’s approval.
• Extended audition (above the regular Choir audition), application and/or interview may be required to assess
the student’s vocal technique, music reading skills and attitude as well as a student’s ability to sing

independently from other parts.
• Students are required to compete with a solo at UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest. 
• Previous Weiss HS Choir experience is required.
• Students must re-audition each year.
• Participation (including extra-curricular) and eligibility during the previous year is essential and is used as a
determining factor when placing students in an advanced level Choir.

Meistersingers Chorale (Mixed Choir)
This class is for 10th-12th grade men and women who have achieved the highest level of musicianship, vocal development and music
reading skills and have an interest in being involved in choral music with a higher level of commitment to more
projects and shows. This class requires extra time commitments outside of the regular school day for extra rehearsals
and performances as a “touring” group and ambassador for the Weiss HS Choir and the school. Students in these classes
must have flexible schedules to allow for last minute calendar changes (having a job is not advised). Eligibility is
mandatory.  
All members must maintain high standards of behavior in and outside of the choir room and on and off campus. Members must maintain passing grades and high attendance at school. All members must audition for All-Region and participate in Solo & Ensemble contest. Students may be removed from Meistersingers for excessive ineligibility, frequent school absences, insubordination or excessive behavior problems in academic classes/on-campus.   Attendance is required at home football games, plus additional community/recruitment performances.

• Students must compete in the All-State process and perform a solo and an ensemble at the S & E contest.
• Attendance is required at home football, basketball and volleyball games, plus additional community/recruitment performances.
